i'm going to go look at a 1986 CJ-7 tonight, the guy says its solid and barely any rust, he said its got a 360 with headers just wondering if they came from the factory with the 360, i didn't think they would any ideas what the tranny would be with that then? thanks!
No I think they stopped in 81, they are a real common and easy swap to put 304, 360's, and 401's in cj's, they are a direct bolt on, the same bolt patterns. They are really easy to finb, cheep, and maybe newer they were offered till 92 in grand wagoneers.

One caution. A swapped in 360 would be nice (if done right!), but if the owner retained a trans such as the T-5, be ready to buy a new trans, the T-5 or T-4 WILL NOT live for very long behind a 360. If its an auto, a 900 series is about the same strength as the T-4,5. One good thing about the 86, Dana 44 rear, unless it is a very early 86, the first few came with the left over Model 20s, and they have problems with spring perch alignment, the jig had slipped after a lot of use and the perches are not centered properly. This is a little known fact about the 86s and late 85s.
