i have 1978 cj-5 258 with the dreaded carter bbd.i have lost the fast idle cam screw #32 section 4 page 19 ofhaynes jeep cj repair manual.i have looked everywhere for a replacement.would anybody have one they could sell?thanks guys!
Where are you from? If I can find where I threw that damn Carter at when I took it off it should still be on there. Let me know where you are at and I will see if it is still laying in my barn next to my trot lines as that is about all it is good for!! A trot line weight. Take my advice and get a Q-jet and throw the carter as far as you can. You can get a Q-jet at any junk yard and rebuild it cheap and never worry again.
thanks for the input but...........i am kinda thinking 'bout swapping in 302 next summer so i just need it for this winter!i am in the dayton ohio area.i would be glad to pay for shipping.thanks again!!!
when i bought my jeep 8 months ago i did not know that by buying it i also got lots of friends.the people on this board have helped tremendously by sharing ideas, pics, knowledge and even parts(thanks dave for fast idle cam screw).if everybody got along like this just think how great life would be!
I wasn't aware the BBD was even around back in '78. My '74 232 uses a Carter YF 1 barrel, and its a damned good carb! My friends '78 Cherokee has the same carb on his 258 and it worked even though he had it caked with mud constantly (and ran often with no air filter) The earlier non-stepped BBDs weren't a bad carb either. They aren't anything real special but they are pretty reliable.
