How wide is too wide?

Axle width, how wide is too wide? I've got a pair of waggy D44's that are soon to be part of my '71 commando, what I'm wondering is if I should narrow to 57" and keep my 28" spring centers, or leave them 61" wide and relocate my attachment points to 32" on the frame?
Anyone see any "wide" disadvantages? Anything good to say about outboard vs. stock spring width?
Thanks much,

Re: How wide is too wide?

well devin.. i have a front d44 from a 78 wagoneer.. and i love the width.. i think its just about perfect.. not too wide.. and not to narrow.. so i just started cutting down my rear end to match the fronts width.. my rear is a d60-2 semi floater.. and what that decision did was.. well next year.. i hope to run a d60 front.. so i now will have to cut that axle down to match the rear.. but like i said.. i love the width.. and with the wide boggers that i run on the trail.. it sometimes is almost alittle to wide..

Re: How wide is too wide?

I checked out your site and like what I see. Bummer about your other rig, but the new one looks just kickin. I went out and did some measuring this evening and I think that with 33's and smaller tires, that I will probably stick with Wide track width (57" +/-) I'm now contemplating SOA, thanks to you & your site...I feel the money leak coming on. You guys that do respond to these simple stupid requests, like mine, believe it or not, really make the difference. If we all knew everything, we wouldn't need BBS.
Thanks again for your help,
