EEEP!!! Emissions Test Notice...... Help? a notice for emmisions gonna get my exhaust redone....everything from manifold down is being replaced...

my engine idles really badly (258 carter BBD stock).....what can i do really quickly to help me pass

im in Illinois and will most likely be tested on a tread mill thingy in addition to the regular sniffer test....

any ideas anyone??

thanks.....i know this has been covered before but still help!!!

There might not be a need to panic. Check your spark plugs first. If they are a nice ash brown then you are probably OK. Any darker color might mean trouble. Those 258's ran pretty clean any way. Most carbs just need cleaning.

Go to NAPA and get a bottle or two of that emissions pass stuff, and run it in the tank full before you go, and the one you go with...
It works wonders.

Just like he said, check your spark plugs, then change them for new ones.

Clean the idle jets on your carter BBD so the stupid things idles correctly.
Some of the guys have instructions on there web sites on how to do.
It's cheap and easy.

See how much some of the local shops want for a 'Test Run' through the emissions mill....
It will eather give you peace of mind, or it will let you know what's wrong...
