360 carb problems

hey guys new to the page, about 4 mos. ago i purchased a 1980 cj-5 from a friend (he needed money) it has a 360 amc t4 with a 300 trans case model 20 rear and a model 3o front dif. 4 inch susp. lift 33 in BFG AT , now here is my problem... the 360 has an after market carb on when your climbing a steep incline the gas in the carb runs to the back and the engine flutters, im not a pro with the gas and clutch so it usually stalls out , my one friend stated that the carb is the kind they use on drag cars etc. . what could i do to fix that flutter, should i put a stock carb on what one would work all your help is app. and also what is the correct shimming of an amc 20 on the drivers side? how much end play is ok right now i replaced all seals and bearings dust shealds etc, i have .005 end play.

Re: 360 carb problems

Welcome to the BBS.

I replaced the stock carb on my 1978 CJ5 304 with a direct bolt on Holley. It works great and there is a ton of info on adjusting them.

Good Luck!
