Hercules Winch

found an old Hurcules winch forsale for $300 says its enevr been used, havent looked at it or even know if its electric or PTO but does anyone Know anything bout this winch? thanks

1970 Jeepster Commando Halfcab, SOA, 33s,
and the buick 231, and SM420. haven't drove it yet but the granny lows gonna rule! runs like a top to boot!

Are you sure its even for mounting on a vehicle. The only Hercules winches I've ever seen are in industrial and aeronautic applications. They were used frequently in sawmills and other logging operations and also in cargo planes, they were used in C130s fairly frequently.

the guy "says" its a truck winch that rated about 8k, an dis dad bought it and its never been used, and the guy "sounded older" so its probaly not been made for a while, and oh yea it was made in california

If memory serves me correctly, the old Hercules winches for Jeeps were PTO worm drive units. They were slow but grossly under rated as far as pull.

They also made 24V aircraft winches and heavy lift logging winches the size of a jeep.

It may be a good unit but if it breaks you may not be able to get parts.
