Tranny in 00 TJ

I've had 3 jeeps but my 00 TJ makes a chatter noise from the transmission when the in neutral and the clutch is out. The dealer will not fix it and it gets annoying as hell sometimes, makes it sound like a diesel. Chrysler says its normal yeah right. My 97 TJ did not do this. Has anybody else had the same problem with their TJ?

Re: Tranny in 00 TJ

The 5spd used with the 4.0 engine in 2000-2001 is called an NV3550.

Every person I know with this tranny (including me) has this noise. I've had my TJ for over a year and it has gotten much quieter. Consider yourself lucky if thats the only problem you are having with it, there are a number of people who have had serious shifing problems with this tranny.

Do a search in the archives in the Jeepsunlimited wragler forum archives and you will find hundreds of post regarding this.
