Portable Shop Sub-Panel-correction

A while back I posted on making up a portable electrical sub panel for those of us who are in rented quarters. In my post I mentioned IN ERROR that I was using a three-conductor cord to feed the panel and it could plug into a dryer outlet. IN FACT, the panel should have a FOUR-conductor cord similar to what the MODERN dryers have, and what trailer houses have used for YEARS. Because the panel is a stand-alone item, it falls into the same category as an APPLIANCE, which is what a trailer house is considered to be electrically speaking. It would be improper, therefore, to use the third leg of a three-conductor cord as both the NEUTRAL and the GROUND, since they are NOT the same thing. If something were to happen to the third leg, YOU would become the neutral in that case, and you could get a shock. I have changed to a four conductor #8 cord to feed our new portable sub panel.
