I kinda like em. They look more like a Jeep than the current Chrysler products do.

I didn't know they worked with them..I thought they were some foreign company who was copying jeeps ideas and barely modifying them..and overseas that they couldn't be regulated.

Re: Most outrageous thing I\'ve seen!Jeep Ripoff

Hey Joey

Been to the Philipines lately? How about Brazil?

There's a kind of machine in the Philipines that's called a jeepney. In fact there's about a billion of'em. Thet look like a cross between a low hood flat fender and a San Francisco trolley. Not licensed to any company, just built ... mostly by hand. And prety cheap, too.

Remember the high hood flat fender (CJ3B). The CJ5 replaced it in 1955, right? Wrong! Built in Brazil until AMC bought Kaiser Jeep in the early 70's. Built in the U.S. of A until 1963.

Back to Brazil. If I'm not mistaken, CJ5's are still being built there. Don't try to import one into the good old U.S. of A because the federal jeep police will get you.

One more little tidbit. Most of the replacement jeep tubs for sale here are made in the Philipines by a company called Sarao Motors. A guy I knew bought a stainless steel tub back in the early 80's and as far as I know he's still driving it.

What pisses me off the most is the fact that Dot and the NTSB won't bless this stuff so we can't get it unless it's in pieces.

Yep - and Mitsubishi makes a "CJ" too. Identical to the classic CJ, but with the little triangles logo in the top center of the grille and the Joop stamped in the sheetmetal on the sides didn't have decals. I saw these dozens of times in mainland Japan, but I never had a camera in hand when one went by. It was too cool seeing brand new "CJ's" though!

Happy Anniversary and Thank You to the Frozen Chosin Marines!

Re: Most outrageous thing I\'ve seen!Jeep Ripoff

Just by looking at those pics I would have to say that the first two pics look like there has been a merge between a toyota and a jeep.
The willys looks like it has a land cruiser roll bar and the double cab truck bed looks to be the bed off an FJ-45 truck.
All I think they did on the truck is put a new front clip on it.
Take a look-cee for yerself and tell me what you think about this.
I kinda like the looks of them myself.

Another little tidbit, even though it is not Jeep related. When I was in Cancun this Summer, I noticed that there where a lotta old Volkswagon Bugs that looked brand new. Guess what? The Bug is still being built in Mexico, about 100 a day.

Thanks, Ray
