will wrangler springs fit on cj?

a friend of mine has a set of old man emue <-?? dont know how to spell it. springs for an 89 wrangle. he said he would sell them to me for 150 bucks. i know there good springs and its a great deal.
i know they are a little longer than my springs. but how much longer and inch to inches. is it possibel to bolt tthem on or would i have to move my spring hangers? i think they are a little wider too. would i have to get wider spring perchs and wider spring hangers (not shackles but the other end)

Re: will wrangler springs fit on cj?

4 Wheel Drive Hardare sells a kit to bolt the OME springs to a CJ, however it would work with any Wrangler springs also. It's new spring hangars, skidplate-style spring plates, greasable shackle/main eye bushings and bolts, and U-bolts. The cost is $360. BTW they also sell the kit AND the springs for $955.
The rear springs are the same width as the CJ springs, and they would bolt in with no problems, however the fronts are wider and longer so at a minimum you would need new hangars and spring plates.
I am curently researching a new suspension for my wife's Scrambler and I would jump on that deal in a second!

Re: will wrangler springs fit on cj?

I have been running them on my 1982 CJ7 for 5 years now. Good ride and flex. Extend the front shock towers and go with longer shocks (for a 4" lift). There are OME shocks which are valved for this application. I cut/punched the front rivits holding the front x-member out, used HD rear CJ spring hangers by moving them forward approx. 1". OK Tire and Wheel (sorry, don't know the url) sells all the parts as a kit or per each and offers great help also. Don't expect much more than 2" of lift, if that much especially if you have a heavy winch/bumper combo on the front.

Re: will wrangler springs fit on cj?

ok so for the front i would need new spring plates cause its wider. i could probably make them. the front sping hanger that the shackles attach to i could make that work. but the rear spring hanger (for the front spring) needs to be wider. how much wider is the wrangle front spring compared to an 80 cj7 with a 304 front spring. i dont know if they put differnt size springs on the front cause its a v8 i just though i would throw that infor in just incase. how much longer at they? if they are only and inch longer i could probably still get away with putting them on. thanks for the posts.. keep them comeing

***** NO, the CJ uses a VERY wide bushing in that spot for some reason. The YJ springs with YJ bushing will fit in the rear spring hanger (for the front spring) of the CJ without any mods.

I have done this

Re: will wrangler springs fit on cj?

The YJ shackles I used are 1-1/2" longer (3/4" lift). They came with the "kit" I was sold. With those shackles on, the CJ still had a nose down attitude with my old 8274 winch on. Now with the 8000i, it almost sits level. A side note, I used REAR springs (J1R) on both ends.

Re: will wrangler springs fit on cj?

You can buy springhangers from JKS for just this purpose. A lot of people just use CJ rear springhangers but this is not the best route. They are much weaker. I have attached a picture showing the difference. I am extremely happy with the JKS hangers.<img src=http://cgi.tripod.com/smilecwm/cgi-bin/s/net5/biglaugh.gif> <img src=http://cgi.tripod.com/smilecwm/cgi-bin/s/net5/biglaugh.gif> <img src=http://cgi.tripod.com/smilecwm/cgi-bin/s/net5/biglaugh.gif>

Re: will wrangler springs fit on cj?

i'm not to worried about the spring hangers for the front (of the front spring) more about the. hanger for the back of the front spring. one of the guys posted that the wrangler spring will fit in it. if i use the wrangler bushings. any one know how much longer the wrangler front springs are than cj front springs? thanks for the posts
