T150 Tranny Rebuild

Have any of you undertaken the task of rebuilding your tranny? Is this something a shade tree mechanic can do with a Haynes/Chilton's manual? Shops in Pacific NW want $300-$400 to rebuild and yards are scarce up here. Can't find another T150 and thought I might try this. What kind of difficulties can I expect?

As always, your opinions are valued.

My other vehicle is an Aircraft Carrier.

Re: T150 Tranny Rebuild

A lot of 2wd Ford trucks used a version of the T150 thru the 70's. This is where I got my T150 parts a few yeas ago. The ford transmission will have the shifting levers on the side of the transmission and the shifter itself is on the column but the gears are exactly the same.
This is all I can remember about the Ford trans other that the fact that it looks exactly like the T150 other that the long tail housing and the shift levers are on the side of the transmission.
If anyone can identify the Ford trans, please do.

Re: T150 Tranny Rebuild

I have a T150 sitting in the garage that you can have if you want to pay shipping. I pulled it when I swapped in my T18.

Re: T150 Tranny Rebuild

Let me check tomorrow at work. I'll be able to put it on a little skid and strap it down. Which of your emails works best for you?

The tranny does not have the gear on the output shaft, as I needed that for the T18 swap. If you're swapping for another T150 you should have one.

Let me know if this makes a difference.
