Merry Christmas Marines! (OT)

Just thought I'd share this with everyone, this board seems like we have alot of patriots on it. Also a Merry Christmas to all that are in service to this nation. We need to take time to give a little thanks to all that are currently deployed and are away from their loved ones.

Marine Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone
In a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone
I came down the chimney, with presents to give
And to see just who in this house did live
As I looked all about, a strange site I did see
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree
No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand
On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land
With medals and badges, awards of all kind
A sobering thought soon came to my mind
For this house was different, unlike any I’d seen
This was the home of a U.S. MARINE
I’d heard stories about them, I had to see more
So I walked down the hall and pushed open the door
There he lay sleeping, silent, alone
Curled up on the floor in his one bedroom home
He seeded so gentle, his face so serene!
Not how I pictured a U.S.MARINE
Was this the hero, of whom I’d just read
Curled up on his poncho, a floor for his bed?
His head was clean shaven, his face weathered tan
I soon understood this was more than a man
I realized the families that I saw that night
Owed their lives to these men, sow were willing to fight
In hours, around the nation, the children would play
And grown ups would clebrate on a bright Christmas day
They all enjoyed freedom, all Month and all year
Because of MARINES, like this on lying here
I couldn’t help wonder, how many lie alone
On a cold Christmas eve, in land far from home
Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye
I dropped to my knees and started to cry
He must of awoke, for I heard a rough voice
Don’t cry Santa, this life is my choice
I fight for freedom and don’t ask for more
My life is my God, my Country, my Corps
With that he rolled over, drifted off into sleep
I couldn’t control it, I continued to weep
I just watched him for hours, so silent and still
I noticed how he shivered from the cold night’s chill
I took off my jacket, the one made of red
And I covered this MARINE, from his toes to his head
Then I took one of his t-shirts of scarlet and gold
With eagle, globe and anchor emblazoned so bold
Though it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride
And for one shriving moment, I was Marine Corps deep inside
I didn’t want to leave him, so quiet in the night
This guardian of honor so willing to fight
Half asleep he called over and in a voice clean and pure
‘Carry on Santa, it’s Christmas Day, All Secure’
One look at my watch and I knew he was right
Merry Christmas my Friend, Semper Fideles, Goodnight.

H8, don't you just love being on ship in some foreign port for Christmas? For the three Christmas' that I spent on ship over the past few years it never fails that at midnight on Christmas eve they welcome Santa with, ding, ding,...ding,ding, Santa arriving. Then about fifteen minutes later, ding, ding...ding, ding, Santa departing. Gotta love you squids sense of humor!!

Re: Merry Christmas Marines! (OT)

I only spent one Christmas, overseas when I was enlisted. I was only 19 years old and had no kids, so it wasnt that bad for me. I called my Mom and Dad and wished them a Merry Christmas, then went out to a bar in Naples Italy and got drunk out of my gourd.

Re: Merry Christmas Marines! (OT)

Hmmm let's see, first Christmas in the Corps was 1986, I had just check in to the MarDet on the USS Saratoga in Mayport, Fl. 1987 I got crossdecked to the USS Kennedy in Norfolk. For 88 and 89 I got to go home while I was stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC. For 1990 I was in Saudi Arabia for the great Persian Excursion Christmas in the desert. 91 I got to go home again. 92 was Barcelona, Spain, while on the USS Austin, what a party town. 93-97 I was on recruiting duty in my home state, Louisiana. 98 I was back in the Med and right back to Barcelona, while on the USS Nassau, it hadn't changed, still a party town. And for 99 and 00 I get to spend it with my family. I've been on four Med floats and have visited Naples probably five times. We referred to that port as the armpit of the Med. Now Benidorm and Palma de Majorca, Spain are the ports that I love to visit, especially in the summer. How do you like that San Miguel?

awww!!! Listen at the poor wittle air winger, spending that whole 88 straight days on a ship with showers everyday, three meals a day, maybe even the air conditioner worked too, a rack to sleep on every night, etc., etc., I know you wingers have it bad. "Hey Gunny, can you turn down the AC, it's getting a little cold in the berthing." Semper fi, Pat!
