Donor Dana 44

I'm looking for a Dana 44 to narrow and put under the front of my CJ-5, and I hear that they came with two differant size u-joints. What make and year of truck came with the larger U-joints and 5x5.5 bolt pattern?
I have access to some 1/2ton Dodge axles, but I am not sure on how to tell if they have the large U-joints?
Will I be able to swap out the yokes from my 30 to a 44, so-as to use my jeep system disc drakes?

do a search on axle swaps on this forum.. much of our time is spent talking about it.. also, go to the website below and look at "chris's tj-7" and "updates"... lots of good axle tech..

Re: Donor Dana 44

Will and I were descussing dodge front ends a few weeks ago, I think some used a funky bearing set up on the hubs.

scout is the only one I know of with the 5x5.5 pattern, but its caster is wrong, but if your gonna shorten it then its easy to fix that sides caster, so your already half way there.

personally Id go with a wagoneer front, if you want Spring under.
or a chevy front if you want spring over.

its easy enough to convert to 5.5 5 lug.

Re: Donor Dana 44

as ozark said, stay away from the 74-79 dodge full time axles. they use a weak semi floating hub (which might be ok for a jeep) but they also have a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern that won't work with a cj.
