Purchase advice (still looking)

Found another candidate and need advice. '91 YJ NP231, AX-15, I6 base model with 124k miles on it. Has 2.5" lift (done properly as far as I could tell) 31x10.5" tires, AR wheels, no rust at all on body. Small leak at transfer case tail and from rear diff (35c). Runs good, drives straight. Got it down to $5000. I'm only worried about the miles on the engine, really. What do you think?

Re: Purchase advice (still looking)

Sounds great to me. The TC and diff leak are minor problems solved with less than $20 worth of seals. The 4.0L engine thats in there is the High-output model. This engine is much praised for durability and there are people on this very BBS with over 200k miles on them without a rebuild. The AX-15 is a good transmission as well, and the NP-231 is a very stout 'case with a nice 2.72:1 low-range.

Re: Purchase advice (still looking)

Thanks for the thought Sycho15. I've been doing some more thinking about
this would be rig (or "car", as my wife refers to it). Given it's current
status what would be the most economical but productive way to make it more
offroad worthy? It has 31x10.5 Michelins All Seasons on it now and I like
the way it handles and rides on the road. I would be driving it 2 hrs to get
to trails in GWNF, VA. I would probably start with some sway bar disconnects
then maybe a 1" body lift (has none now). Would that accomodate 33" tires?
Also, what size the wheels could be if thread width is same as rim width?
Could I put 33s on these rims (lets say they're 15x10.5? How much more
articulation would I get with sbars disconnected? It feels like it has
medium stiffness springs. I like the gearing for now, 1st seems nice and
slow and I won't do extreme rock for some years. (at least till wife gets
used to being vertical or turtle!) So, maybe finally I'd through a LockRight
or TrueTrack in the rear to help out. Would this make sense? Thanks.
