Anyone know if the supercharged buick 231 can be swapped into a jeep?

Advance Adapters makes all the necessary adapters and mounts for a V-6 Buick, the wiring and little stuff to drive you crazy is up to you.

Re: buick S/C 3800 engine swap?

The problem with the SC 3800 is that it is a FWD 3.8L. What is needed is a RWD 3.8L which with the exception of some newer Firebirds and Camaros, was phased out of service in '87. There are no adapters that I know of to mate a FWD engine to a 4WD trans & xfer. I sometimes wonder if all the internals and externals from a FWD SC 3.8 could be mated onto a RWD 3.8 block. Would be a challenge of great proportions though. An easier alternative would be a RWD turbo 3.8 from a Buick Grand National or other Buick T types. This has been done in at least one Jeepster Commando that I know of in the Las Vegas area. Probably other Jeeps out their with it as well.

Re: buick S/C 3800 engine swap?

Sounds Like a good swap. One of the fastest production cars ever, is the turbo Buick GNX. Can you imagine an upgradeded Turbo Buick, in a lightweight Jeep. It would be scary fast. Due to liability I don't think this is a good idea. Just kidding, If you kill yourself because you couldn't handle the power, you deserved to die.

Thanks, Ray

Re: buick S/C 3800 engine swap?

I have worked on several GNX's down through the years.
I still have about a dozen of the fabled "FBI-DEA" chips still...
That will make them come alive!!
In the 80's, the drug smugglers knew who the DEA agents were because they were the only ones that could get a hold of the GNX's at first...
And the brain surgeons back at DC couldn't figure out how all their agents were being spotted all the sudden.... (Well, DUH!)

With a little bitsy nitrous kit the bottom end comes back and how...

I saw a super charged 3.8 in a Jeep at SEMA this year, and it got me thinking....

They did use the rear wheel drive stuff, and any GM transmission will bolt up...
I wish I could have spent more time talking to that guy, but we had customers to take care of.

It did really get me thinking though....

Re: buick S/C 3800 engine swap?

So did they use two engines to come up with the one? Did it look all aftermarket or was it the low profile setup like the SC Riv's and Regals have? I would like to know how it was done so when I hit the lotto, I'll be ready. Course I guess I should probably buy a ticket. At least that's what my wife keeps telling me.

Re: buick S/C 3800 engine swap?

I never rode in a GNX, but I raced one with my big block Dart once (back in my outlaw street racing days). We had a 1/4 mile marked off on 114th street in West Allis, WI where we did our racing. The thing had NO bottom end, but WOW dit charge past me on the top. I would guess at the track we would have about the same et's but that GNX had to be 10 mph faster! For those of you not into drag racing, 10mph is ALOT for a 12-13 second car.

Anyways, back on topic, I had thought of a GN motor swap in my CJ-7, but by the time I figured out all of the electronic stuff, I would probably be too old to enjoy it. My 258 will have to do untill I come up with all the parts to swap in a MoPar 360 crate motor and TF727.
