Military memo question (OT)

I know some of you guys are currently enlisted in several branches of our military, so I wanted to know the truth. I read a post on a local snowmobile BBS, as follows:

"I heard that the animated piece of excrement living in the white house, has sent out a memo to all military bases yesterday, reminding the military personnel that "any negative comments" about the president, VICE PRESIDENT or chief of staff are grounds for court marshall and dis-honerable discharge. Evidently there were some disention concerning the Gore tactics of eliminating the counting of the military absentee ballots because of a postmark (I'm Saddam would have been glad to acomodate them). Not that the Liberally biased Media would report on it anyway, but Clinton didn't want it to possibly leak out that the blacks in Fla who didn't actually vote, weren't the only citizens who felt disenfranchized by the election"

Any truth to this?

Re: Military memo question (OT)

I remember once being told to keep my mouth shut about those in my Chain of Command. Since Klinton is the Commmander-in-Chief, it would apply to him as well. I never saw anything formal about it though. The dishonorable part sounds like a hoax. You want to talk about dishonorable? How about Klinton himself!!!

When I was in, you didn't badmouth the COC, even if they were terrible. You could get into big trouble, but I doubt it'd ever hold up to a Courts-Martial or Dishonorable Discharge.

Re: Military memo question (OT)

Hey I just read that this morning, The USAF Air Combat Command (ACC) JAG officer sent the email to 85,000 officers.
Here is the link http;//www.egroups.com/message/raybdavisjr/380 . I dont know how to make things "clickable" on this forum, so if someone can fix it thanks in advance. I am a 50% disabled vet, and an American Legion SO, if you know of a vet that needs help and does not know where to turn, send them my way. I have tons of links for veterans.

thanks, JJC

Re: Military memo question (OT)

Here's the down and dirty according to the Uniformed Code af Military Justice. That is the rules and regulations that govern all the military.

Article 88 Contempt Toward Officals

Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, Vice President, Congress, Secratary of Defense, Secretary of a Military Department, Secretary of Treasury, or Governor or Legislature of any state, territory, Commonwealth, or possession which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

Now that just pertains to the commissioned officers. Us enlisted can be punished by the infamous Article 134, A General Article. Basically what that means is that if someone deams something that you did as bad and it is not covered in any of the other articles, you can be charged with Article 134.

Hope that clears it up. And in asking my leagal guy, the individual that you badmouth doesn't have to be present. Somebody just has to rat you out. Enlisted can even be charged for badmouthing commissioned officers and them not be around. I sure would have alot of charges against me for both.

Go figure!!!!

Re: Military memo question (OT)

We got a briefing on this a couple of years ago when Willy jokes were flying on e-mail. It's in the regs but not likely to be acted on unless you REALLY tried to get in trouble.

Re: Military memo question (OT)

It goes even further. DoD civilian employees are covered under a similar instruction ... The only difference is they don't get court-martialed, they just get fired. That Department of the Navy memo was published around 1995 or 1996.

Don't worry, though, everyones job is safe. If all of us that bad-mouthed Weasel & Company got court-martialed or fired there would only be 3 people left in the Pentagon today.
