Re: dodge tranny leaking please read me!!

If the fluid is running out of the bell housing area the posibilities are:

1. Transmission case to Pump housing gasket failing.
2. Troque Converter to Reactor Shaft bushing/seals failing.
3. A bolt left out of the Pump housing.
4. Improper bolt torquing of the Pump housing.
5. Overfill of the transmission. Put in about 4 quarts of ATF, then run the transmission. The Torque converter will start to fill, as will the valve body. Then work through the gears and keep filling untill you reach the full mark on the dip stick.
6. Make sure it's dripping from inside the bell housing and not somewhere else like the pan being impropperly torqued.

Were I a bettin' man, I'd bet you completley filled the inside of the case of the transmission... and nothing yet has gone into the converter of the valve body. So.... the fluid level reaches the vent in the pump housing and starts to travel from the inside of the transmission thorugh the vent and down between the torque converter and the transmission case down the case to the outside...
Start the engine and draw that stuff into the conveter and valve body... I'd bet you'll not have a leak after that...

FYI- If you also have a cooler in there for the tranny and you didn't empty it, there will be a few quarts hiding in there as well. This will add to your overfill issue.

Re: dodge tranny leaking please read me!!

if it were a used tranny id guess pump bushing and seal are bad, the converter nozzle sticks thru them, ive seen teh bushing go bad and take the nozzle and seal with it ( hopefully not a new one though!)

Leve most likely has it, the vent is right in there also, so its probably just over filled, but MAN itll have to be VERY full to reach the vent?

you need to start it and check the level.

Heres a thought, Torque converter drain plug? It cost me $30.00 at a shop when I was 17 to have a similar leak fixed they just tightened the plug. Now if they had done it for free, I would have been a customer for life (they would have made a fortune by now)
