Exhaust pipe gasket??

Pulled my exhaust pipe last night to get that flange off where the pipe attaches to the cat. My question is, was there supposed to be a gasket up where the exhaust pipe attaches to the manifold?? There wasn't one there, but this jeep is so F-ed up from the last guy who owned it, I don't know what is and isn't supposed to be there. Thanks guys...

Re: Exhaust pipe gasket??

I'll take a stab at it. Most,(I say most) factory exhaust manifolds are cast iron and run no gasket at all.You can put one on it, but if it didnt leak there before, dont fix it!!

Re: Exhaust pipe gasket??

That's what I thought...It's just the jeep was pretty "mickey-moused" together. Thanks, I won't put one in there.
