258 Aluminum valve covers

I was about to order a 4WD Hardware valve cover for $119.95 when I recieved my Quradratec catalog today, they have an aluminum finned one for $99.95! Anyone have any experience with this cover, the price is almost too good to be true.

Re: 258 Aluminum valve covers

Unless they have changed thier baffle design, don't bother with the Clifford
cover. In my experience it requires extensive mods to keep from sucking oil
out the cover into the intake.

Re: 258 Aluminum valve covers

Yeah, I have heard that about the Clifford too, its also more expensive, I wasnt' even considering it. I really like the Westside cover, but I can almost get 2 of the Quadratec covers for that price!

Re: 258 Aluminum valve covers

Yeah, I bought the name rep. and bought the Clifford. I ended up drilling
out the rivets holding the baffles on inside the cover, tapping the holes, put-
ting helicoils, cutting a piece of sheetmetal to fit tightly inside the cover
and screwing it down on top of the baffles. This shields the baffles from the
oil splashing and stops the excessive oil consumption.

Re: 258 Aluminum valve covers

It looks similar to the one from 4WD Hardware (only no 4WD stamping on the top).
Looks like the head still needs to be drilled & tapped.
I got mine awhile back from 4WD. Just be sure to put enough gasket dressing & clean the mounting surface real good (otherwise...leakage). I put red locktite on the bolts just so it doesn't run loose & leak again.
I like the newer model one better (no drilling/tapping type).
Other than that, my 4WD one is still intact and no leak .

Re: 258 Aluminum valve covers

The Westside cover is now $160. I really like the looks and other features of that cover. Maybe it is worth the extra sixty bucks?!
