CJ body mount replacements

I am curious to hear what others have done to fix the problem of body mounts that are rusted away from the underside of the tub. I think all six of my tub mounts are gone, the frame portion and rubber is still there, but the tub mount has been lost to cancer! I have seen weld in floor panels and such, but no formed pieces that replace the sheetmetal mounts on the underside of the tub. Any ideas or places you can get these? I don't want to ante up for a used tub or fiberglass one. Thanks.

Re: CJ body mount replacements

its just sheetmetal channel with a moveable but captive nut right?

they sell that sheet channel in 4 ft lengths from eastwood co.
if the tub isnt too rusty to hold a new reinforcing channel?

Have heard of people using sign post type channel, the type used on road signs.

Re: CJ body mount replacements

Thanks for the ideas, after some more investigation, it probably would be best to leave it alone until I can get a new tub. The whole bottom is patchwork and not very pretty...

Thanks again!

Re: CJ body mount replacements

Check outhttp://www.classicent.com/jeep.htm#1976-1986 before you give up hope. I had the same problem with mine, and it was before I found this link above. I welded in all 1/4" plate for structural mounts, and while I was at it, I got rid of all the sandwiched metal and little crevices that can cause it to rust out. It's been a long and arduous process, but well worth it in my book, it WON'T rust out again.
