360 Intake?

I.ve got a chance to pick up a 360 4 barrel intake real cheap, how are the stock intakes, good, bad, do they produce good low RPM numbers? It also will have a stock carb on it, I think a motarola, is it worth keeping?
Another thing, do the Jeep AC compressors make good air pumps? As you might of gested, I can get my hands one of those cheap to.

yes, the stock 4bbl intake and carb are worth bolting on
yes, the jeep compressor is a york, the best kind for on board air

Id loose the motorcraft carb in favor of something alittle more holley or Qjet-ish.

if the AC compressor is off of an older Jeep itll be great for air, but if its off of a newer Jeep its a differrent kind.

if it looks like a little horizontal shaft Go cart engine then its most likely a YORK.
if it looks like an electric motor then its a non sump type, and not quite as good for air pumping.

wsmiller, if that stock intake is for a 4 barrel Motorcraft spreadbore carb like the one sitting in my basement, here`s a few things I found out about them. The Motorcraft spreadbore uses the standard Motorcraft/Holley bolt pattern, so a Holley 4 barrel will work on one of these I think, how good it would work I don`t know. The throttle bore size and spacing is similar in appearance to a Qjet or Thermoquad, but only in appearance. The Qjet or Thermoquad will not bolt directly to one of these intakes. I`ve been told by Parts Mike and others the Motorcraft spreadbore carb is a pretty crappy carb, especially off-road, and is hard to get tuned. I did install a Qjet on the intake I have but I had to make an adapter plate using a Qjet to Holley carb adapter. I don`t have it installed yet but am planning on finding out how good this is going to work in the next few weeks.
