Lift Height?

This might be an easy question, but, how do I tell how much lift my CJ-7 has? I bought it from a po who didn't know much and I just can't tell. I just bought a set of 33x12.5's hoping they would fit, but it lookes like 35's might have! Can anyone help?

(attached is a photo with the 31's on if that helps...)

Re: Lift Height?

Looks like 2.5" to me. 33s will do OK, especially with a 1" body lift, 35s won't work.

Re: Lift Height?

Maybe even a sagged 4" lift. I think the 33" are good for what you have know. If you want to go 35s and make it work propperly you would still have a bit of work to do. Such as a body lift, cutting the fenders, that sort of stuff.
I would get out and enjoy the 33s, this will give you a chance to evaluate the suspension, steering and drivetrain. 33s are a very capable tire size, that will allow your driving skills and the Jeeps capabilities to get aquianted. 35s really tend to bring out any weak spots in your rig, sometimes at the most inopertune time.
Enjoy.

Re: Lift Height?

My 2.5" Rancho cj-7 measures about 5.5" from the top of the axle tube to the frame, on the drivers side front
My lift is about 6 months old. I also have desert steel shackles on it, I think they are supposed to give a 1"
lift. Hope this helps.

Re: Lift Height?

My Jeep measures 7.5" from top of axle tube to bottom of frame but its 5" from axle to bump stop (on front pass side). If this is a 4" lift, I don't have a drop pitman arm and I dont' think that the tranny has been lowered.... Its probally a 2.5".
