Aaron, ideas for MSD6A run-on solution?

Aaron, or anyone else who has the MSD6 series modules,
I installed the module this morning and man does my CJ run smooth and accelerates smoooooth, idles great etc. I already had done the basic TR upgrade on my 85 CJ7 with 258. Large cap, adaptor, wires, TFI coil and the works. My problem was when I got back in the driveway after a testdrive--it would still be running if I didn't disconnect the red power lead. I remembered some others mentioning this same problem awhile back and read of the possibility in the MSD instructions. I have installed the diode inline on the brown alternator wire with no success and then on the red power lead to the MSD unit also with no success. Do I need a larger diode? TIME OUT!!!!!

Sorry to solve my own problem on the board but right in the middele of typing the business on the diode I remembered it is a one way device. Or at least I thought I remembered that right. The real funny part now is that I would have instead needed a resistor inline on the power lead and I accidently hooked the diode (wrong application for the power lead) up so that the current got to the module and I was running--but also running on with the ignition off!!

I started to delete this post and thought better of it. In case anyone else is adding this upgrade, the instructions are there just not right where the wiring diagram is. The upgrade is definitely worthwhile and the price is right especially with the carparts.com discount. DRM posted the coupon code on or around the first week of October.

Enough rambling, just glad to share my inadequate electrical skills.

Re: Aaron, ideas for MSD6A run-on solution?

That is the #1 problem with the MSD instructions.
They don't tell which way to install the diode well enough...

You want juice to get to the alternator, but not back from the alternator control wires...

You can also connect the MSD small red wire to the White wire that goes to the module, but only if there is no Red wire on the 'I' terminal of your starter solenoid....

Glad you got it, and if you need anything else, feel free,..... The advice is!! (and worth almost that much...)
