I need a rear output shaft for a D300

It snapped clean in two, no other damage. Does anybody know where I can get one?

Try Border Parts in California I think. They seem to have everything like this... I know their contact info is available on the Binder Bunch (Scouts) page...

4WD Hardware sells it, but that sucker is $218!, you could probably find a whole used case for a little more than that.

Border Parts is located in the San Diego area. Their number is (619)461-0075. If this is the original transfer case out of your 1980 it may have the short output shaft. I believe 1980 was the only year Jeep used the short shaft Dana 300. If so this part may be a bit harder to locate. You might want to check it out before you shell out the cash, just to be sure you track down the correct part. Good luck.

Advance Adaptors sells a new output shaft for the D300. It is supposed to be much stronger than stock D300. I am cosidering going to it as a way to get a 4:1 x-fer case. Look at AA website under new offerings.

Swase-

Dan Pawlak is offering -300 degree Cryo treated rear shafts.
Contact him at

This would seem to be a good upgrade alternative.
It's either that, put your trust in a new stock unit or go with
that new, beefier $ 546.00 job from AA (Whew!)

Re: I need a rear output shaft for a D300

Thanks guys, I think I'll try the frozen shaft or a new part. I said I would post a picture of the night I broke the shaft, and here it is.

Re: I need a rear output shaft for a D300

Yep, pavement, out in the boonies. I would have brake stood it longer to get more smoke, but I had both back tires going, and the back wanted to pass the front. Told the wife to snap the picture right after I let go of the brakes, she did good. She thought the whole this was a little silly, I felt a little silly after I broke the output shaft. I guess I should have raised the tire pressure to do burnouts, I was running around 10 psi.
