Opinions on a Pierce Winch

I recently found a Pierce winch in a battery shop that some guy had them rebuild. At any rate, the guy has been putting them off on payment for a month now and they are tired of ti laying there. It is a 12000 pound winch and just had a rebuild kit put into it. It is in need of a cable and the handle for free-spooling is broken off and it needs a new one. Other than that it is tip top shape to my knowledge. If I can convince the guy that works there that it won't fit his truck without severe mods to the front end, they are asking $300.00 for it. I just thought I would ask this group and get your opinion on it.

Re: Opinions on a Pierce Winch

As you know from looking at it they are big and HEAVY and, like LEADER said, slow because they are a worm gear design like the Ramsey RE series. I think that same worm gear design makes 'em pretty dependable too. The weight would be my only concern. Parts are readily available for 'em...Pierce Winches is down here in Texas, Henrietta I think... near LEADER.

Re: Opinions on a Pierce Winch

I have a Pierce 9000 on my CJ and I'v never had any problems with it. I pulled my jeep up a tree once just to see if I could! It is a strong winch but is on the slow side. Most winching needs to be done slowly anyway so its never been a problem for me. Last I heard you could buy this winch for around $550, good price for a good winch.

Re: Opinions on a Pierce Winch

Do you mean that you can buy the 12000# for $550 or the 9000# one for $550?
