Do lift shackles reallly lift?

i was looking at a jeep in the parking lot of college today and noticed he had 31" BFG MT's using just lift shackles, now they were pretty long, i figure he got te 1 1/4 inch lift ones, but it seemed to almost make the leaf spings completely flat unlike how the factory are kinda of arched, just wondering if this happens if you use lift shackles or what, i don't want to lose my approach angle if thats what the shackles will do, Thanks alot, btw does anyone know the aproach and decend angles of a 95 wrangler? and how much better are the angles of a TJ than a YJ? thanks again!

Re: Do lift shackles reallly lift?

A lift shackle will give you half the amount of lift of the length of the shackle over stock. Yes, it does hurt the approach angle, among other things.

Re: Do lift shackles reallly lift?

in about a year, you'll lose the lift the shackles gave you beacuse the springs will have sagged. the springs are then ruined and you'll have to buy a lift kit anyway. just start with the lift kit, and buy some good sturdy reguklar sized shackles..

Re: Do lift shackles reallly lift?

I put lift shackles on my wrangler, the springs became flat and the ride became worse. I took them off and went back to stock shackles and the springs went back to their original arch and the ride improved. Explain that one...

Re: Do lift shackles reallly lift?

Just stick the 31x10.5s on your stock Jeep and get the lift kit later. YES THEY DO FIT with a little rubbing off-road! This question has been asked many times and often I've put up pictures and links of my stock Jeep with those tires on it. Here it is again, click on the picture so see many more pictures of the tires clearance...
