NP 231

Just bought a 90 YJ a weak ago and my 231 makes noies when I am driving. It sounds like the gears are lose? I havent drove it in 4 Wheel Drive yet ( no mud ) so I dont know if it will do it then. I have oned a 231 before in a XJ and it did not make this sound. Thanks for your help.

Re: NP 231

You have probably already checked this, but how are the u-joints on the driveshaft? What about the slip yoke...is it loose?

Does the pinion have some slop in it?

Those all sound like they come from the transfer case when you are driving.

Put it in 4 wheel hi and drive around your driveway and see if something else comes up.

Hope that helps.
