CJ7 Wheel Locking

I have a 76 CJ7 with a 304 cu. I was driving down the road and the left rear wheel locked up. I thought at first a tire let go, but not the case. I then thought the brake hardware may have let go to lock it, but it is fine also. The Jeep will run forward and reverse for about 20 yards and then it's like the wheel winds up to being locked and skids. There is no metal to metal sounds or anything which seems differnet than when it was fine. I am lost...axel, bearings, differential....please help.

Re: CJ7 Wheel Locking

Kinda sounds like a wheel bearing. Only one way to find out, and that's tear it all apart on that side. If it's the bearing, you'll probably end up needing a new axle, too. That's if you can get the race out of the housing. Good luck.
