hesistating acceleration

A friend of mine has a tj and as of recently has been acting up. Idles fine, but when you press the gas it hesitates for a second and then start accelerating. Its like if at first air is being blocked off and then the passage clears up. Any ideas as to what to look for? Thanx again.....oh stck 4 cyl auto tranny

Re: hesistating acceleration

Check Air Filter, Fuel Filter First.. you can replace both fairly cheap.. maybe some new plugs? How many miles do he have on the engine?

Re: hesistating acceleration

its got 12k miles on it....I used to have a problem like it before with my jeep. But mainly after coming home from a muddy trail, and then one day (poof!!!) it went away.
