V8 and TH400 installation in a CJ-7?

What all do I have to do?? I'm thinking about dropping a 350 V8 into a CJ-7, 14bolt rear, Dana60 front, 4.56 gear in both, TH400 tranny, and do a spring over with 4" lift springs and 2.5" drop shackles. A 3" body lift also might come into effect here too. I'm looking to run some 39" Boggers on it. I'm talking this thing will be a beast. Let me know. Thanks

You could check this over on the Full-Size GM Pickup board, but I THINK that the GM 350/TH400 may have come with the NP205 transfer case attached in some of the applications.
SO......that would be what you need to complete the puzzle. In fact, if I really wanted to make our '79 CJ7 into a super-crusher, I could just jack up our 1980 GM FS 3/4T and throw away the body and frame, leaving the 14-bolt FF 3/4T rear, the 10-bolt front, the NP205, the SM465, and the 350 sitting there on the floor. Then take a few minutes and set the CJ tub and frame on top of them and drive off. Shouldn't take over an hour total.

Re: V8 and TH400 installation in a CJ-7?

Lets see...5" of lift from SOA, 4" more from the springs, 1.25" from the shackles (just to a SR on the front and longer shackles in the rear for 2" of lift) and a 3" body lift for a grand total of...14" of lift! Toss on some TJ flares and your clearing 44" tires, not 39s!

Restoring a '74 DJ-5C Its missing the alternator. At first the Ammeter gauge just didn't work but now its missing an alternator

Probably have to mount that 14 bolt with pinion pointing up right to get a drive line to mate to that NP205 that is way too long to fit a CJ.

What do you mean by that dude? I'm not a dreamer. We have the parts, money, and time to do this. Actually I am a dreamer, but if this is possible then why not do it??

Re: V8 and TH400 installation in a CJ-7?

Excuse me Mr. JEEP4x4ngFREAK -

"What all do I have to do??"

... now that's a good question ....

Since I saw that this is only your third post here and you did not even take the trouble to fill out your profile ( do you own a ? we can't tell!) AND you said you were THINKING about this setup (sorry - I call this kind of thinking as dreaming since it ain't happening yet), I supposed this was your latest ...
I am always thinking (dreaming) of the next upgrade, by the way.
Try starting by taking the trouble of filling out your profile first before you ask for the complete encylopediac rundown on "what to do" to realize your 'dream'.
I am also sorry that you did and do not understand my type of dry, wry, sense of humor. I comes with age ....
My comment meant to convey the fact that this type of machine has been and is being built in hundreds of garages across the country in every combination imaginable (or that could be 'dreamed' up).
I might suggest you digest all info at your disposal (including this form) go to as many off-road events as possable to see what folks are doing, THEN work towards your 'dream' machine... and fill out your profile so we can get to know you ...
Your out of the blue and blanket, "what do you think", "what do I have to do" question opened yourself up to my 'keep on dreaming' reply.
"... talking this thing will be a beast." and making the beast is a long road.
That's what I think .... hey, you asked ...

I think I like CJ-Dave's answer too.
