AMC 20

Well, not sure if first post went through :-( So, I will attempt again.

I am trying to get into my rear differential to replace the pinion shaft and spider gears as well as the wheel bearings and seals on either side of the dif. Mighty Jeep (80 CJ-7) is up on jack stands with both tires off. Drums and brake assemblies off. Do I need to remove the brake backing plates (4 bolts) to extract the axle shafts? Is there a C-clip to contend with? Once and if I remove the 4 bolt brake backing plate, and use a wheel puller, will the axle shaft slid out easly? Are the wheel bearings press onto the axle shaft....are, are they inside the end of the tubes?

Any help would be appreciated......

Mighty Jeep

Re: AMC 20

Why don't you buy my rear AMC 20? It already has a detroit, one piece axles and new brakes..3:54 gears. Otherwise, no c-clips, yes pull the backing plates, and yes the bearings in my old 2 pc axles were pressed in. Good luck...seeya...

Re: AMC 20

I am asking $ 550 complete.
Here is a copy of my for sale ad..

I have a set of axles out of my '79 CJ-7 for sale.
The front is a Dana 30 with 3:54 gears (installed 9/21)and Detroit locker. Axles have new dana/spicer u-joints and warn premium hubs. Also I just did the brakes (disc). Bolt pattern is 5x5.5 (standard jeep). I also have a spare set of axles ready to install. Asking $800

Rear is an AMC 20 with 3:54 gears, Detroit locker, Superior one piece axles and bearings. Asking $550
I also have a dynatrack U-bolt flip kit. My cost new was $350, make a reasonable offer.I wil not sell these until my axles are sold.

I will separate the axles if necessary, but prefer to sell as a whole package. These axles are still on my jeep awaiting new axles to arrive. Thanks, Ricky
