Engine Missing

My Jeep just started Missing Yesterday. At idle it has a Good drop in RPM only at idle not under acceleration I had to turn up the idle to keep it from trying to die. Did plugs gas filter air filter today and the same thing. 1980 cj 258 auto any ideas. Thanks David

Re: Engine Missing

have you checked the timing?
are you sure it's the ignition and not fuel?
possibly a vacuum leak also.
i don't know how much smog crap you have but my 87 has plenty of vacuum lines which could cause it to run rough if bad.

Re: Engine Missing

I have the best idea for you to check. It was the fix for my baby. You can surf to it, or you can just click this little link to a part of www.off-road.com website .. in the Jeep section there is a piece about the stock carbs.

Lets see if that does the trick for you ..

Re: Engine Missing

Is it the BBD carb?
There is article in tech section on how to fix it.

Re: Engine Missing

You said plugs, but what about the wires? A bad wire would easily cause that.
