Re: Dave\'s Dual Ignition (Pictures)

If you have a 'Pile' of them, I'd be interested in obtaining some cores...

Watch your magnet polarity, and unless you have some way to accurately cut ceramics, don't try this at home!!
You have to cut the ceramic magnet, and they are HARD and BRITTLE... If you crack it, it's shot.... (Adds poles)
If you try and snap it, IT's SHOT... It must be cut.
Get a wet diamond saw, and hope for the best...

I found a place to get the vacuum advance through Chrysler, but they want $139 plus shipping!!!
I'd love to know if someone finds somewhere you can buy them reasonable...

Re: Dave\'s Dual Ignition (Pictures)

The way I understand it the dual ignition is so that if one ignition circuit fails, you can go to the other one with the flip of a switch so you don't have to do a hasty field repair and you can make it to a more favorable place to fix the other part... Probably not a very good explanation though...

Re: Dave\'s Dual Ignition (Pictures)

Thats kinda what i thought. i just didn't think that an ignition failing was that common. What would cause one to fail?

OK....let's say that scumbag-the-second gets himself elected and they end up outlawing both Jeeps and guns. When you are one of the last remaining Jeep guys and are "on the run" with your renegade band of fellow Outlaw Jeepers, and the government black Suburbans and Humvees are trying to run you down, if your ignition module takes a crap, you are dead meat. Ignition modules cannot be repaired, only exchanged. With this system, when the engine coughs you just reach over and toggle to the alternate ignition system and keep on truckin' and shootin' baby! Later that night you crawl through the weeds to a farmhouse and swipe the module off the nearest Ford truck, or get one of your underground parts scroungers to nab an MSD module. ] Hey....are we paranoid or what? Actually, TeamRush makes this same sort of arrangement for fire trucks and other emergency vehicles. The NASCAR boys also use them in the big stock car races.

Re: Dave\'s Dual Ignition (Pictures)

This is the type of wet, diamond saw that TR is talking about.
The pictured version is a "Trim Saw" or "Gem Trim" for a 4" diamond blade that is prefered by stone inlayers in the jewelry trade.
The smaller blade usually defects less and gives a more precise cut than a larger, more common 6" version.
