Shocking Articulation Question

You guys that are getting great travel out of your suspensions , I hear LOTS of advice about getting the right length of shocks or all the suspension work it a waste . When I look at like 4WDH catalog at the Rancho shocks , all I see is the regular ones and the 2 -1/2 " lift shocks . Are you guys talking to Rancho and other shock mfger`s directly or how are you ordering your shocks for a long travel situation ?
When I look at my 79 CJ , there isnt much room for a long travel shock(in front) , I guess I pretty well have to go to the later style shock towers huh ? Thanks for any help guys.

Re: Shocking Articulation Question

The proper way to find the right shock if your app isn't listed in the mfr. catalog is to cycle the suspension. You have to take measurements at static, fully compressed and fully articulated downward. Then start looking at the catalogs, they list all three measurements, and find the right shock.

Re: Shocking Articulation Question

Rancho has their shocks listed on their website. You will have to have Adobe Acrobat reader to download it. Acrobat is free to down load and Rancho should have a link to download the reader as well. This is a great reader to download as many things are in this format. Rubicon Express is in this format as well. After you downloaded it just cycle the suspension as said earlier and look up the application that you need. Remember to leave some clearance room. You can then be assured that you are getting what you need, because every Jeep sits a little different. Order wherever you want, and use the manufacturer item #. Even autozone carries Rancho, and can order what you need.
