Radios Installs

I need to get a Tuffy security console. It has a place for a radio. I thought about mounting a CB in it but there are a couple of drawbacks. A CB has a mic. No place for it when you lock the cover. Plus the cover probably wouldn't close with the mic attached. So, how about putting the AM/FM radio in the console, and the CB in the dash where the radio was. I could even use the existing dash speaker mount for the CB.

Re: Radios Installs

Your CB must have a front mic hookup. I saw a TJ that had a pretty nice setup. The guy took out the factory AM/FM whatever and put in an aftermarket am/fm/cd player. Since the factory opening was so large he mounted his "little" CB on top of his radio and used the extra pieces from the mounting kit to cover the excess holes. He also ran an external speaker. If your CB has a side mic hookup than you could drill a hole in your Tuffy, take apart your mike, run the wire through the hole with a grommet for waterproofing, and then rewire the mike. Hope you understood that.

I may not like what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Re: Radios Installs

Have a look at the CBrack. If security is important, the combination of the least expensive Tuffy center console (between the seats) and a CBrack make a good combination. Remove the radio in about 30 seconds and store it in the center console for security. While it is mounted on the CBrack it is as accessable as anywhere in the Jeep, and the CBrack offers space and strength to mount a bunch of other stuff too.

Re: Radios Installs

i will be putting my cb under the top of the tuffy box.. then cut out a slot in the top of the side of the box.. for the mic wire to sit into.. when you close the top it will sit on top of it.. not sure if you can understand that..
will run an aftermarket speaker behind the seat to the rollbar..
i like keeping my stuff safe..
