Hard top

I have a 1987 YJ that I just got a used hard top for. The top came off of a '93 Sahara. When I first put the top on to take it home from the person i bought it from, i did not take the channel on the windshield that is for the soft top off and assumed the reason the front screw holes were not lining up was because of that channel. Today, i took off the channel to put the hard top on for the rest of the season and the problem was not solved, the wholes for the screws still do not line up. Anyone know why this may be happening and do I have to be concerned about it? I'm not concerned that it is going to fly off, because it is secured pretty well to the tub, but i am a little concerned about leaking, from snow or rain. Should I be? Any ideas on how to line it up better? Thanks.

Re: Hard top

I don't think that the holes lineing up is as important as the front seal is making good contact. If you got hard doors with it, be sure to put them on and make sure everything fits before you drill new holes .I would secure it in front with at least two or three screws to keep it from lifting or fluttering or whisteling at highway speeds.

Re: Hard top

it did not come with a seal in the front. Also, when i was driving last night, I began to hear whistling noises coming through and it was real loud. I didn't have this before i tookthe channel for the soft top off. Should i put that back on to solve the problem or do you have a better idea? thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Hard top

Use some weatherstripping to fill the seal area. Do a search on this, we discussed it just a couple of weeks ago.
