WATER PUMP

Question:I Have a 1978 cj-5,inline six,and a manual fan. When I rebuilt the motor,I just ordered the parts for that specific year and make.Everything went on fine with no problem, except the pulley for the fan. When I bolted it on,it hit the water pump.I posted here a couple of days ago about this, but a few things have changed since then.Last night I picked up the old water pump and cleaned all the gunk off, and stamped on the pump housing was (REV.)The parts listing at my NAPA store does not call for a reverse rotation water pump.I do not have a serpentine drivebelt, and with everything bolted on the V-belt does not line up.So,did AMC use rev. pumps on 1978 cj's with v-belts and pulley's,or was the old reverse rotation water pump that was on it the wrong one? Sorry about the length,I was trying to give you as much information as possible. If I did'nt give enough info, please let me know.

Re: WATER PUMP

best thing to do is clean up the old one and take it with you to the parts store and try matching it up starting with known info ....year make model and take it from there ,that way when you leave either you will have the right part and not have to make multiple trips for nothing. You never Know what people do to older vehicles especially Jeeps."Jeeps are like a box of chocolates ,you never know what you will get when you open one up "
