Degreaser

I went ahead and bought that old Warn 8274. Yes, I am anal. I have the urge to paint it. I'm gonna try some of that POR 15 stuff.

What's a good cleaner/degreaser? I've tried engine cleaner, Simple Green, and detergent. What can clean this thing up?

Re: Degreaser

Try some Easy-Off oven cleaner. BTW: Don't paint it with POR-15 unless you're going to top coat it...POR-15 is UV sensitive.

Re: Degreaser

What would you recommend painting it with? I want something that's gonna look good for a long time.

Re: Degreaser

Take a look at Hammerite and see if that strikes your fancy. What I'm doing with my frame and several other parts is coating with POR-15 and topcoating the POR-15 with Hammerite...I have some other parts with a POR-15 base and POR-15 (not the same stuff, just the same manufacturer) chassiscoat topcoat.

Re: Degreaser

Hammerite is awesome stuff; sold around here (Denver) at Home Depot; you can buy either spray cans or quarts; Castrol super clean (in purple bottles) works great for cleaning just about anything, including degreasing old junkyard parts.

Re: Degreaser

on the 8274, 90% of the winch is aluminum, only thing needed painted is the motor. Buy a can of walmart 99 cent black paint and go wheel
