Keeps stalling

My Cj-5, 304cid keeps shutting down on me. You can be driving 25mph or 75mph, hot or cold and the dang think will just quit, turn the key off and on again she fires right up. I've checked the wires they seem fine, coil seems fine to. Sometime it does it when you hit a bump, other times it does it on smooth roads.

Any IDEAS???????????

Re: Keeps stalling

Check the Ballast resistor.... it may be cracked from heat and vibration. This will open the voltage circuit to the coil. If this happens the engine dies with no warning. Check for an external crack in the resistor or signs of heat damage, etc. The resistor should be mounted on the firewall, and may have two, or three wires coming from it... depending upon it's style.

Good Jeepin'

Re: Keeps stalling

My 82 CJ had this problem when I bought it. After much head scratching, parts changing and swearing, it turned out to be the ignition module going bad. Fifteen dollars later, I haven't had a problem since.
