Manual Valve body? TH400 Questions

Hey,

I am getting ready to have a TH400 rebuilt for my CJ. I have been told the different types of setups including Manual valve body, Reverse valve body, etc. Whats best for wheeling? Why? Any suggestions or comments thay may help?

What shifter should I go with?

I also have heard that there is sometype of upgrade or something for the Th400 to make it stronger like the TH350?

Should I go with a stall converter? Why? Why not?

What kinds of things do I need to tell the Trans shop to do? I realize I have to make a longer breather hose. Any other mods. that I need to do?

I realize there are few questions here.. Thanks for your help!

Re: Manual Valve body? TH400 Questions

The TH400 is beefier than the TH350. There is a TH475 that came in some trucks and motor homes that is really stout. The TH400 in my Willys needs a rebuild so I'm interested in what you find out too. I'd like to go with a lower 1st gear set, but I think it's outta my budget.

The th400 is stronger than the th350 but the th350 has more parts available, is cheaper, and has better stock gearing.
