Exhaust Thoughts?

Well just wondering.. what are some good headers for my 304? Who makes a good set?, Also I currently run Side Exit Dual Exhuast.. Wondering if I should put dual flowmaster and run to the back or get some Glasspacks and run the same side setup? What are ya'lls thoughts...?

Re: Exhaust Thoughts?

as for headers i can't help you about a good brand but i have dealt with quite a few amc headers and all that i remember had a problem with exhaust leaks. i don't know why the amc's are so bad with them but i don't recomend them from my experience. i'd go with manifolds and a well built system using flow masters or even glass packs. flowmasters have a little tamer sound but are alot larger and take up more space under your jeep. i like glass packs because they don't but they are quite a bit louder. i guess it is all about what you choose. as for the exit position for your pipes just make sure they are not in a place where they can get smashed. my pipes exit into my rear fender wells just over the frame rails. never seen one like it but i wanted them there because there is no way for a rock to get to them. some of the other readers can probably be more help with the headers but like i said every set on a amc motar i ever saw had a problem with leaking.

Re: Exhaust Thoughts?

I would just make sure that your exhaust exits on the sides of your jeep. My exhaust exits straight out the back. EWWW!! Pretty stinky. I have heard of others with this same set-up, same problem. It's not constant, but it's bad enough to annoy you. When I get mine re-done, you can bet it's coming out the sides.

Re: Exhaust Thoughts?

I'm running Hooker Headers, in frame, on my 360. I researched the issue, and here's the deal - I don't know if mine leak or not, but I know headers are prone to leaking. I was told to find headers with as large of a mounting flange as possible (which are usually the really expensive ones), and use a good gasket. Maybe even double the gasgets up. As for the muffler, I was driving my JEEP for two weeks when I put the 360 in it with NO exhaust. Straight headers. It's a nerve wracking experience. Kinda cool, but quickly embarrassing. Especially since I could only drive it during the day for fear of waking everyone up in all the surrounding NEIGHBORHOODS! So I over-did it and went with a quiet no-name muffler b/c that's all they had in stock. I'd recommend using a high performance muffler - either the Flowmaster for a good, deep, throaty sound (2 chamber, not the 3), or the cherry bomb for a rougher, broke-a$$ vehicle sound.

Re: Exhaust Thoughts?

I'm redoing my exhaust right now. I have a set of Heddman fenderwell headers (the silver ones). I'm changing them out to Heddman in-frame headers. I don't think the in-frame headers will be as good. But, I want to tuck my pipes out of the way.

I like glass packs and dual exhaust.

I'll sell the fender-well headers for 1/3 cost new. They are less than 1 year old and do not leak.
