YJ Dash in a CJ?

I was wanting to swap in a dash and a/c from a YJ into my '84 CJ-7 and was wondering if anyone has done this before. How hard is it and what will present the biggest problems?

Re: YJ Dash in a CJ?

there's an article on jeep web on ORC putting a cj dash in a yj. Not the same thing, but it might be somewhat helpful. Heres the URL http://www.off-road.com/jeep/swb/articles/dash.htm

Re: YJ Dash in a CJ?

It would probably be easier just to swap in the AC under or into your current CJ dash. I can't stand my YJ dash and will be making a custom unit when I get that far along in the project (should be another year or so.) As soon as I get my welder though I'll be making a new dash for the DJ-5c so I'll get to toss around some designs...

Getting the gauges to work
Getting the HVAC controls to work...YJ uses some vacuum actuated stuff like a car that the CJ doesn't have
Location of the windshield knobs

If all you're really after is AC, it's just a bolt-under-the-dash unit that's darn near identical CJ to YJ.
