Rims

Would someone please tell me, how wide the stock alumimun wheels, on my 88 Sahara are and also can I use BFG Mud-Terrain T/A 31" or 32" on these rims? Are there some other brand of tires I should be looking at for use on the street and on sand trails, also I tow my Jeep with my Motorhome. Thanks for your input.

Re: Rims

My *guess* would be 7" wide, but someone else may want to correct that if I am wrong. If so, yes, you can mount a 31x10.5 tire or even a 32x11.5 tire on them with no problem. You may have slight crowning with the 11.5" wide tire, but adjust your air pressure accordingly to compensate if needed

Re: Rims

You will most deffinatelly rub on your springs and sway-bar.
and depending on the lift maybe the body. The only way to stop the first two is to adjust out your steering stops(limit the amount the wheels turn) or buy different offset rims.

Re: Rims

I bought an 89 YJ Islander that had about the same size tire, the fronts rubbed on everything. If you want wider tires you need new rims with less setback. Also you will need to gain about 2" to clear the 31" tires. Try a 2" shackle lift (ok) or gain the height by changing the springs (better).

Re: Rims

I have 31s on my Jeep with stock suspension and rims. They rub the leaves while turning a little, so I just don't turn as sharp. They rub the fenders a little while out wheeling, but its nothing severe. Besides if they manage to hit the fender hard enough the fender will just move out of the way so maybe next time the tire will clear
