fan pulley

How many types of fan pulley's did AMC use on the 258? I have a 1978 cj-5 ,with a mechanical fan.

Re: fan pulley

At least 2.

My original 1980 258 had a fan pulley with two belt grooves (it's never had a clutch fan) only stock fan. Original equipment on my engine consisted of alternator, power steering, smog air pump. When I added the air conditioning compressor as a air source I took all the pulleys, belts, and pieces from the donor AMC Pacer. On the I-6 Pacer (258 probably)there was a fan pulley with a single belt groove. I reconfigured my Jeep to match what had been on the Pacer. It was a long time ago but I think I had to move the alternator down on the lower passenger side of the engine, compressor above it. I also remember that I had to change the pulley on the vibration dampener as the Pacer was different (more or fewer grooves, I don't remember which)from what my stock Jeep had been. It was well worth all the effort. Of course I don't know for certain about the year Jeep you have. John
