Hard Starting

Hey guys I have a 1980 cj 258 auto unfornutaly all the emissions have been removed, not by me it was that way when I bought it. The problem is after my jeep gets hot and then sits for about 15 minutes it is hard to start and smells like gas onces it starts it is sluggish for a few seconds then idles fine. When it is cold starts and runs great and idles the rest of the time great. Any help is appreciated Thanks

Re: Hard Starting

Sounds like the choke is staying on and flooding it out. Do you have electric or manual choke? Most of the electric chokes were controled by the oil pressure switch, to heat the choke control. If this isn't working the choke will stay on when hot starting, vaccum will pull it off when running (I don't want to go to deep here). Get a manual and check the choke adjustment and the wiring. Enjoy it, it's all part of driving a jeep :-)
