Aftermarket gauges for 258

My fuel gauge crapped out, then my oil psi gauge. I am planning to have a diamond plate center dash piece made and I want to have four white face auto meter gauges or mopar gauges set into it. The problem is I dont know if anything is compatible with my 258. Does anyone know how I can do this, and wether or not I should get mechanical or electrical gauges. I would like to be able just to splice em in to the original wiring but, if there is any other way please let me know. thanx

Re: Aftermarket gauges for 258

The auto meter mechanical gauges should come with enough brass fittings to plug into any motor. I always liked mechanical gauges and thats what I'm putting in my CJ (oil press, water temp, trans temp, and volts (obviously that one is electric)). I really like the liquid filled pro-comp gauges from Auto Meter. Kinda' spendy, but vibration wont kill them! The only down side to mechanical gauges is, if you dont get the fittings sealed up well on the back of the gauge, then you have that fluid inside the vehicle.

I don't know if the electric aftermarket gauges will be compatible with your factory sending units, but the new gauges should come with their own senders. Just take your time and wire them up nice and out of the way if you go the electric route.
