3 days in Boston on Business...jeep rental!

So I arrive today for a 2 1/2 day conference in the Boston area and I show up at Enterprise car rental for my transpo...what a day, they say, "we are going to upgrade you to this Jeep"...cool! 2001 XJ with 49 miles on it. First time I have driven one...I actually kinda like it. That 4.0 I6 is awesome, can't imagine what it is like in a TJ...I should have put that in my CJ rather than the 360. I also like the 16 inch wheels on the XJ.

Boston traffic sucks...although you do see a lot of Jeeps. One was really cool. I wonder if he is on this BBS. The guy drives a nice looking TJ with a Mass. license plate #3456. If anyone knows this guy, I was wondering what type of front and rear bumpers he had.

2 1/2 days left in Boston with new XJ...anyone want to test the capabilities?

Re: 3 days in Boston on Business...jeep rental!

I got sent to Boston to build a restaurant once. Drove into town from the south with a blizzard on my tail. There was so much snow that the whole place shut down for about two weeks. They were dumping snow in the bay and stacking it as high as they could get it to go. All the stores ran out of beer first then staples. It was quite a mess.

The nice thing was that all those snow piles melted very slowly. Every time I went where the parking was tough, I just put it in 4 and hopped on top of the stack of snow. Always had a place to park!

Hey jeepsternaut, when are you leaving? I'm arriving in Wakefield on the 13th for company training and leaving on the 16th, probably going to help mxnhid move to their new house. I also have to pick up some parts from the Boston Mangler while I'm down there. Maybe we could hook up?

4.0 better than a 360? :-)

"...I should have put that in my CJ rather than the 360."
----------- CUT
I like that statement!
I was once told by a local Farmington Jeep guru that "Putting a V-8 in a CJ is a waste of a good Jeep!" .... though most of the local hot dogs run 350's.

I DID note this past weekend that the Currie Enterprise entrant at the ARCA event was running a in-line 6 with a 4.0 head, Auto + coils .. don't know if it was a 258 or 4.0/stroker? ....
This rig is always very competitive.

Re: 4.0 better than a 360? :-)

A lot of the guys in our club run the 6 cylinders, some that had V-8's even swapped back. I'm going to a 350 as well, nothing cheaper to fix, parts are plentiful, power is virtually limited by budget only, and it's a bolt up to my present setup. I still like the sound of a V-8 as well.

JEEPN...I leave about noon on the 14th...bummer. Would have been pretty cool to link up with a few people out here.

Getting back to the engine conversation...I have to admit the 4.0 is impressive, however, about 60% of the reason I went with the 360 (had a 258 prior) was for the COOL sound that you just can't get without a V8. Of course the reason I went with AMC was for ease of installation.
