Dana 20

Have a question about installing a Dana 20 onto my 304 w/ Automatic.. its a 78 CJ with Centered Dana 44 rearend... The dana 20 came from a 3speed tranny from another jeep.. Just wondering if this will bolt right up or do I need some sort of adapter

Re: Dana 20

my jeep had a quadratrac xfer case bolted to it first, but swapped in another full time xfer case but swapped in a center dana 44.. so I believe it might work not sure though?

Re: Dana 20

you will need an adapter so i'd find a dana 300 if you can, the dana 20 is a good case but doen't have the low range ratio that the 300 has.

Re: Dana 20

it is possible to get a d20 behind the turbo 400.. but you do need an adapter plate.. some old j series trucks came stock with that setup.. but most people still want 200 bucks for them..

Re: Dana 20

No one hit the spot, can you say Jeepster? The 72-73 Commandos had a 304, Tubo 400, D20, D44 all lined up under the body, buy you better not chop one up unless the Jeepster is already a goner, hate to see them get chopped for a Xfer case. Also the D20's from any 67-73 Jeepster will work as long as it is with the auto, I think there is a difference in the spline count of the D-20s with the manual and the autos.
