80% tread 1/2"and up, some groves cut from prevous owner running them on toyota without pounding front fender seam down. These are great tires, I wheeled one trip through the con with them at 51.1, just got my slo-mo in 117.1 think I may break birfields so I want some 35"s or 36"s, looking for 35x16 bogggers, or??? $650wo/rims $775w/rims OBO Would like some 6 lug rims in the trade too if possible, email, or call me at 530-534-1507.Located in Oroville, Ca

Re: 38.5x16x15 TSL\'s 4sale

just thought you might want to know. a friend of mine has the Dual Marlin case (about 117:1) and runs 33" on his 85 Toy. He breaks birfields EVERY TIME he goes out wheeling. You might want to look into Marfields.

Re: 38.5x16x15 TSL\'s 4sale

I'm still on my stock birfields, dozen trips through the Rubicon, the Marfields are a joke! I'v run 33-35-36 and these38.5's with no problems at 51.1 with 5.71 gears(which people say are weak too) no problems, and I wheel hard, go through little sluice no problem. If I have any front end problems I'll spend my money buildinf a 44 or 60 front myself.Tell your friends not to waste there money on Marfields. But thanks for trying to help anyway, that was nice of you.

Re: 38.5x16x15 TSL\'s 4sale

I think Seabass and myself are the last of a dying breed - able to run stock birfields, 100:1 or lower crawl ratio, big aggressive tires (I run 35x16 boggers) and not afraid to get into it

Marfields are overpriced and still break... I am still running stockers and so is Seabass... I just wish Seabass would not sell out on the 38.5's - sellout!

Re: 38.5x16x15 TSL\'s 4sale

I was talking to the couple of guys running Toys at our crawling comp a couple weeks ago, they said the very same thing about Marfields, they are running stockers, keep a couple spares on hand. The one guy did say he spends a lot of time at junkyards buying up all the Birfields he can, they are expensive used, obscenely expensive new.

I'v had my spares for 2 years! Still have not needed them Marlin sells used ones for $50, I came by mine even cheaper I still haven't tested them at 117.1 as of yet, who knows? I think I would be happier with 16/35 boggers!!!!
What's up DRM , do you visit every board out there or what!?!?!?! He he, I posted here since alot of jeeps can run big with 44&60's

Yeah, I post to just about every major board on the web

Good luck trading or selling the tires - I know I say I am all for the 38's but I think you would be more than happy with a good 35" bogger or a 36x14.50 TSL radial

Re: 38.5x16x15 TSL\'s 4sale

"Birfield" is the name give to the CV joints used instead of standard U joints for the front axles of Toyota (and other) solid axle vehicles.

A "Marfield" or "Newfield" is a name give to an aftermarket version that is *supposed* to be stronger than stock.

If you want more info there is an article on the main page of http://www.rockcrawler.com on the Newfields, or check out http://www.marlincrawler.com or http://www.cvunlimited.com or a page with several pics of mine here http://www.tennessee4x4.com/toyota/r..._birfields.htm

Hope this helps
