It worked! plug in delay wipers for late CJ\'s
It all started while thumbing thru a 4wd hardware catalog. They listed a delay wiper switch for 83-86 CJ's. I checked around and, yes, it was an option. From what I could find out you had to have a 4 wire wiper motor. I checked our 83, and sure enough it did. Now, the switch is listed for almost 55 bucks. WHEW! So while in Denver visiting my brother I go to a local salvage (what do you do on vacation?) and look around for a switch. Lo and behold, they were all over! Nearly every older fullsize wagoneer and Jeep Eagle I looked at had one! Look for a 82-86 model. You need to get the switch, which has a white ground wire riveted to it, and the wire harness and control box. One end of the wire harness plugs into the (delay)switch, the other end plugs into the connector that normally goes to the non delay switch on a non delay setup. There is a plastic control box in the middle. So all you have to do is unplug the old switch, plug in the harness, and ground the white wire hanging off the switch. Viola, delay wipers! Everything functions as it did, except you turn the switch counter-clockwise to operate the delay. Delays between 8 and 25 seconds. I also looked at an early 80's Bronco, the dash was stripped but the connector to the (missing) wiper switch was the same, control box and everything. Although I don't know, I would guess an older CJ with a 3 wire motor would have to switch to the 4 wire motor. I picked up a second switch and harness for my buddies 82, he doesn't know if he has a 3 or 4 wire motor, will post results when they are in.
